Taiwan Labour Minister apologizes for 'Racist' remark towards Indian workers

Taiwan's Labour Minister issues apology for offensive remark targeting Indian workers

Taiwan's Labour Minister, Hsu Ming-chun, faced backlash after making remarks deemed inappropriate regarding the recruitment of Indian workers. The controversy arose after Taiwan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with India on February 16 to enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and address labor shortages in Taiwan's industries.

Criticism of recruitment strategy

During a talk show, Hsu stated that the Ministry of Labour planned to recruit Indian workers from the North-Eastern states of India due to similarities in skin color and dietary habits. These comments drew sharp criticism, with concerns raised over racial discrimination in recruitment practices.
